Artist Bio

I first recall being drawn to painting when I saw an early light illuminating the treetops on a winter morning in 1997.  My belated art journey started then, although my early education and art training in calligraphy made it natural.

I was born in Taiwan.  After moving to the United States more than twenty years ago, I became a resident of the Atlanta area recently and wish to participate in the art community of this area.

In Savannah where I moved from, I had shown my works in many group shows and solo shows.  I was associated with a gallery for eight years.  One of my works was collected by film maker Ron Howard during that time.

Artist Statement

If art is not just a decoration on the wall, it could provide dreams for its viewers and an artist is to offer that dream or try to do just that.

Because of curiosity, I usually experiment new territory and play with new ideas as far as I can.  I don't keep to any one style because I believe each painting has its own purpose and reason to be created. I would like to think that I am organizing my thoughts and rendering them carefully like a composer does for his orchestra, not too much focus on any one thing but having the audience feel the rhythm and hear the entire melody.  I also wish my painting can be appreciated as a piece of music or a poem.

Being both nurtured by Chinese and Western culture is quite a blessing.  There are abundant elements for me to facilitate my ideas.  Being sentimental is not an accusation for an artist.  It happens be the driving force for each painting or each idea.

Matisse once said, in order to understand an artist, the best way is to see his work directly rather than listening to what he says or to read critics' writings about his art.

Hope you will enjoy viewing my work!
